In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. – Proverbs 16:9
Do you ever plan to plan? It is easier to think about doing something than actually doing it. We often act this way about following Jesus, instead of going ahead and just following we have to figure out “how.”
Sometimes it seems as if all of our studies, prayers, being in church and listening to sermons act only to prepare us, but not to get us to do anything. The Lord says, “follow me.” In Luke 9 someone comes to Jesus to follow, but says he has to bury his father first. Another is turned away when Jesus says they will have no place to lay their head. These were not compassionless statements by Jesus, He was making the point that we walk by faith. When we follow Him, we do so in a very different way then we have done anything else. Instead of figuring things out, organizing, making decisions based on all the possibilities, planning — we look to faith and follow based on trusting Him. This may seem foolish or even scary, until we realize we are walking with the creator of the universe and our loving Savior who has given everything to show His love for us.
It’s fine to make plans, but always knowing the Lord already has a plan in mind for us. Knowing that every step of our walk with Him is guided and protected by Him. It’s easy to read this right now and nod in agreement, but let it encourage us (and give us courage!) to get up follow Him today.
