Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6
The passage through life seems anything but easy. It is filled with turns, bumps, rocky potholes, and even dead ends. Sometimes it might be a steep climb, through terrible conditions. How can this be called a straight path?
The Hebrew word translated “straight” in this passage can also mean smooth, and sometimes it is used figuratively to mean right or correct. Various translations of this verse lean one way or another. Perhaps they both are correct. As we acknowledge God working in every part of our life, He guides us along the perfect path. We recognize the right way to go, because we recognize God’s leading. “Acknowledge” means that we know Him, we have become acquainted with Him, we have experience with who He is. We have this and it becomes a vital part of everything we do, and everything we are. Because we are learning to know God, we are also learning to know His love, and what He both provides and expects from us.
This is why the path is straight and smooth. In our own strength, and our own thoughts, it may seem difficult and sometimes impossible. But we traverse it trusting in the strength and thoughts of God our Father. Every step is a vision of His love and guidance. We are on the correct path, and we are being lead by the creator of all things who loves us dearly. Now that is the simple way to go, the easy path.
