| When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble; I will rescue him and bring him honor. – Psalm 91:15 |
We may feel like we only come to God “when we need Him.” We get into trouble, so then we turn to Him and ask for help. When things are going well, perhaps we don’t feel much need.
That was our basic problem before we believed — we were full of pride and didn’t think we needed anyone else. But at some point our eyes were opened to our own helplessness, and also to the life we were missing out on. We came to Jesus and said “I need help” and He said, “I have already provided your salvation through my death and resurrection!”
God is always listening, and is always waiting to rescue us out of our troubles. He does this because He loves us. Each time He lifts us back up it teaches us about that love and brings us closer to Him, which is the relationship He wants with us. We begin to call out to Him even when everything is going OK, because we begin to enjoy that closeness as well. So He is there when we are in trouble, and He is there when we are not. We can have a continuous conversation, and this is what God desires. He will always answer, because He is always right there next to us. We can answer Him too, and speak up!
