| In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. – Matthew 5:16 |
Do you want to know the quickest way to not bring honor to God? Don’t do any good deeds. Now you might be asking, “but doesn’t God love me, and save me through grace, not by my works?” That is exactly true! But there is a reason that God forgives us and transforms us.
Our lives, as odd as this may seem because of who He is and who we are, bring glory to God. We do this by our thankfulness and praise, by constantly seeking to be in His company, and by doing good things for others. God is compassionate and kind, and He expects us to reflect that as His children. Every time we do some act of kindness, big or small, and we have made it obvious we are doing it because we love Jesus — we bring honor to our Father. We let it be known the light that is shining is the light which comes from Him. We are not trying to win God’s favor or work our way to heaven, rather we become more and more like His children in how we act and speak. We become more like Jesus, and our actions begin to show that.
God led us out of darkness when we were helpless and could do nothing to save ourselves. His love sent Jesus, and His love carried us to Him. His grace brought forgiveness. Now we are changed, and His light within us should start to be visible, shining brighter and brighter.
