But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. – Jeremiah 17:7-8
Heat. Drought. How does a tree survive when those things happen?
It is planted by a stream, which will provide water no matter the other conditions. But just as importantly, it sends its roots out to that water. Even though unseen, it takes it in. There is no fear of the heat, and it doesn’t worry about a drought, because it’s roots are near a river that provides a constant supply of what it needs.
We can trust in the Lord in the same way. Our roots grow toward Him. We are confident, because He never runs out. No matter the situation, no matter how hot or dry or desperate or harmful — we are attached to that stream of God’s care and protection. Our leaves always stay green. Even more than that, we always bear fruit. Not only are we sustained, but we provide blessings to others. And it all is because of our simple trust in our loving God. Trust in the Lord. Always blessed, always green!
