Philippians 3:13-14

Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have laid hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 3:13-14

Keep going, do not give up! Wait, what is all that about?

A little earlier, in verse ten, Paul says “I want to know Christ…” This is what he is chasing after. He is not laboring, trying hard to achieve heaven, or struggling to save himself. He is striving to serve and please the one who has already forgiven and saved him.

How much do we want to know Jesus? Yes, we are grateful He has saved us. We love to read His words and teachings, and take in the stories about His kindness and compassion. But how much do we really want to know Him?

When you love someone, you want to learn everything about them. You want to appreciate their feelings and desires. Even though you hang on their every word, you aren’t satisfied with only listening to what they say, you want to chat with them as well. Even though all they do is important, you aren’t content to just hear about what they do, you want to experience it with them. You want to know them.

Let that kind of love inspire us to keep going. The past may have been great, or there may be things that were painful. Either way, we keep moving ahead. We press on, always seeking to know Jesus better and better. Always pursuing His love, and our love for Him.
