But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. – Jeremiah 17:7-8
Heat. Drought. How does a tree survive under those conditions?
It is planted by a stream, which will provide water no matter what else is going on. There is no fear of the heat and it doesn’t worry about a drought, because its roots always have water. Even though they are unseen, the roots take in everything the tree needs.
We can trust in the Lord in the same way. Our roots grow toward Him. We are confident, because He is always there. No matter the situation, no matter how hot or dry or desperate or harmful — we are attached to that stream of God’s care and protection. Our leaves always stay healthy. Even more than that, we always bear fruit. We are sustained, and we provide for others. We stay always blessed, always green!
