Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching. – Hebrews 10:25
Most of the time when we encourage someone we tell them they are doing a good job. We congratulate them for their performance, tell them the new diet must be working because they look great, or spur them on to try that new thing they have wanted to do. We all like to receive this kind of encouragement because it is also a compliment.
As followers of Jesus we should be complimenting each other when it is due, and helping one another with supportive words and actions. But it goes much deeper, because we can also encourage one another by constantly declaring the love and kindness of Jesus. We can boost each other in our good works by continually pointing to the power of the Holy Spirit. We can reassure one another by always being mindful of the care and protection of our heavenly Father. This is why it is so important we meet together regularly. We worship and bring praise to God, and we also gather for prayer and to encourage one another.
When we go to worship our Father, let us also go to encourage each other. That is the kind of practical love that makes us all stronger.
