Be content, love Jesus, not money.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” – Hebrews 13:5

Be satisfied with what you have. Well, what is it that you have?

God says He will never leave us alone, fail us, or give up on us. The maker of all things, the One who imagined the universe into existence and has power over all of time and space, is always with us. He loves us and as His children we are looked after both today and forever. He knows our needs, and has promised to provide. He knows our desires, and wants to give us every good thing. What is it that we have? Everything!

Chasing after money shows our greed and lack of faith. We feel the need to acquire and accumulate in order to seem safe, or successful, or fulfilled. These are all things the Lord has already given us. Some are blessed with more material things than others, and there is nothing wrong with having them. (Or not having them!) But what do we love?

Do we love our possessions? Do we love money and pursuing it? Are we filled with vanity from having them? Do we constantly have to show off our house, our car, our newer, bigger things? Or are all these seen as gifts from the Father as we love Him only Him?

We already have more than we could ever dream of, through the grace of our Lord. Work hard — for His glory. Seek accomplishment — the success of giving up everything for Jesus. Accumulate wealth — the riches of loving God. Just be content!
