Forget about it

forget about it lettering

Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends. – Proverbs 17:9

What do you do when a friend offends you, or treats you badly? How do you respond when you have been wronged?

All of us are equally loved by God. He cares for all of us. As followers of Jesus we are called to show people the same forgiveness that the Father has shown us. But sometimes we forgive and don’t forget.

We have accepted an apology or even gone out of our way to see it from the other person’s point of view, yet inside we hold onto bitterness. We may go over and over in our minds how we have been mistreated. We pretend to show Godly love when in fact we carry resentment. This will eventually tear apart our friendships, and harden our hearts to God’s love. It is difficult to turn our thoughts away from this. Our pride takes over as our mind keeps repeating both the failings of others and how “badly” we have been treated.

The solution is to find those things in our own lives where God has forgiven us. We don’t recall them to wallow back to our guilt, but to relive that joy and praise from knowing God loves us. We ourselves are forgiven, and God doesn’t bring things back up. Rather, He chooses to completely forget about them and move on in love.

Let go of what you know is unloving. Stop holding grudges. Forgive! And forget about it.
