Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. – Ephesians 4:32
God forgives you. And so do I. There is power in this.
We don’t always appreciate how tightly we are connected to one another. When we believe in Jesus, we become part of what He describes as “His body.” We are all different and unique parts with varied and special purposes. But we are all joined together. Our needs are no longer solely our own, but all of us share in each other’s needs. We are not concerned with only our desires, but our hearts are opened to each other’s desires. When one rejoices, we all can join into that rejoicing. And if one is sorrowful, we all take that as a burden as well.
When one stumbles and sins, we unite in love towards them. We don’t excuse, but we do forgive. Sometimes we may have been hurt by another, but we put that into the past just as God has with us. The one who sins may have to face consequences, but we should walk with them through it, again not excusing but loving. If we can show kindness and compassion in this situation, it encourages and strengthens us to be able to be kind and compassionate at all times. It starts with being able to act in love and grace the same way our Father does. Forgiveness IS powerful.
