When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble; I will rescue him and bring him honor. – Psalm 91:15

When do we call out to God?

Sometimes we only call out to God “when we need Him.” We get into trouble, so then we turn to Him and ask for help. When things are going well, we tend to think we don’t need much help.

That was our problem before we came to Jesus. We were full of pride and didn’t think we needed anyone else. But at some point our eyes were opened to our own helplessness, and also to the life we were missing out on. We came to Jesus and said “I need help” and He said, “I have already provided your salvation through my death and resurrection!”

God is always listening, and is always waiting to rescue us out of our troubles. He does this because He loves us. Each time He lifts us back up it teaches us about that love, and brings us closer to Him.

But he also wants us to call out to Him even when everything is going great. He is there when we are in trouble, and He is there when we are not. We can have an ongoing relationship and conversation, and this is what God desires. We don’t need to make a lot of noise or try to get His attention, because God is always right there with us. He will always answer!
