For God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness. – 1 Thessalonians 4:7
How we live our lives reflects what we consider to be most important.
Are we thankful for God’s grace? Are we grateful for His forgiveness? Are we overwhelmed by His love? He has chosen and set us apart to experience and enjoy His good gifts. We are God’s children, loved and cared for.
These are the reasons we praise and serve Him. Do we still mess up? Do we still stumble? Do we still make wrong choices. Yes, we do. But because we are now called to holiness we no longer wallow around in and desire to sin. Instead we recognize God’s continuous love for us even in our failures, seek His presence even when we feel guilty or ashamed, and keep moving towards a greater love for Him.
God doesn’t expect us to be perfect. He is continually working in us and changing us to be more like Jesus. We are no longer slaves to sin, we are no longer called to impurity. We have been released from the bondage of desires we cannot control and from doing things we resent. God’s love has saved us, and we are now called to be set apart for Him. It’s crazy, but God has made us holy!
