I’m wearing my good clothes

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. – Colossians 3:12

What are you wearing today?

We wear clothes for many reasons. Of course they are there to cover us, to show some modesty and provide protection. They may be strictly functional. It may be cold out, so we wear a coat. We might be walking, so we put on comfortable shoes. We may have a job interview or be going to a special occasion, where we know what we are wearing will make an impression.

What we have on could be for recognition, like a military uniform or a wedding dress. Instantly, it tells anyone seeing us something important. Kings wear one type of clothing, and poor folks another. And others want to appear trendy with the latest fashion or style.

But think about having this in your wardrobe: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience. These are the clothes of God’s people. They are functional, they protect us, they identify us, they give an impression. What makes someone look more beautiful than when they are decked out in compassion and humility?!

When we get dressed, it’s a great time to spend a minute meditating on what God wants us to “wear.” Are we putting on compassion and slipping humility over our head? Do we pull kindness and gentleness out of the closet? Are we grabbing patience as we head out the door?

We are so loved by our Father as part of His family. Let’s always have on our good clothes!
