So instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him. – 2 Corinthians 2:7-8
Just how far are you willing to go with your forgiveness?
When someone does something wrong against us or hurts us we all know we are supposed to forgive them. God tells us to forgive others in the same way He has forgiven us. So we pray God helps us and we find forgiveness in our hearts.
God wants us to keep going, the same way He keeps going with us. We are not only to forgive, we are to comfort and encourage the person. Forgiveness may be a hidden thing inside us, we let go of our bad feelings and let go of how we have been wronged. But we can’t comfort and encourage someone secretly in our own heart, we actually have to go do it.
God does the same for us. He doesn’t stop at forgiving. Forgiveness becomes comfort and encouragement, and keeps going. It starts with forgiveness, and continues onto love.
