For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our frailty and weakness, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. – Hebrews 4:15
No matter what our situation, Jesus can honestly say, “I know what your are going through.”
It is amazing and mysterious that in Jesus God became a man. He experienced hunger and discomfort, sadness and loss. He really does understand our pain and our temptations. He knows all about these things because He has also gone through them. He has felt what it is like. Even though He is the God of all things, as Jesus He chose to become exactly like us.
The one who provides for us every day knows what it is like to hunger and thirst. The one who comforts us knows what it is like to have a friend leave, or lose one to death. The one who hears our prayers has lived through needs and desires. The one who heals us has has suffered physically in the most cruel way. The one who forgives us has also experienced what it is like to be tempted and faced with sin. Jesus loves us with the infinite love of God, but He also loves us as one who completely grasps who we are and the things we face everyday. He forgives and strengthens us, fully knowing how weak we can sometimes be and the hold that sin can have on us.
He also has experienced cheer and laughter, and knows the delight of fellowship, friendship and family. He has had the pleasure of a good meal and celebration. Along with knowing what causes us to struggle and worry, He also knows what brings us joy. How wonderful — Jesus gets us.
