For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. – 1 Thessalonians 4:14
Jesus rose from the dead and lives forever. And so will we!
We have simple faith in a simple truth—that Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead to demonstrate that we are forgiven and sin has no power over us. Because something is simple does not mean it is easy to believe. In fact, the simplicity of it all is what makes it hard for us to accept. How could this one act be so meaningful as to change everything?
God created all things by His own imagination and power. All of creation is filled with His love, because love is part of God’s perfect nature. But His perfection is what kept us distant from Him. We could not have a relationship with Him while we were filled with our own selfishness and sin. We could never be perfect and we couldn’t do anything ourselves to change that. Sin had brought death and destruction into the world.
God became man in the person of Jesus. He taught us about our Father in heaven, and how to love. He showed us how to live our lives in a way that God intended and is pleasing to Him. But Jesus also knew we would never be good enough to do these things no matter how hard we tried. In ourselves, we could not overcome the power that sin had on us.
So Jesus took all our sins on Himself, and as a result He took the punishment of those sins, which is death. All our wrongdoings had been paid for, no matter how big or small. He rose from the dead to show that sin no longer had any power, the very death it had brought into the world was now no more. It just takes a simple faith in this simple truth. Believe, and your sins are forgiven. Jesus rose from the dead, and so will we!
