Just passing through
Beloved, I urge you, as temporary residents, to abstain from the desires of the flesh, which war against your soul. – 1 Peter 2:11
The things of this world should not make us feel at home. We are citizens of God’s country and His children.
The world is full of temptations which take our desires away from God. We all struggle with lusts and sins, and they can make us comfortable living here even as they tear at our soul. Even the good things in this world can take our attention away from the Lord.
We may find ourselves distracted by the the love of family, the beauty of nature, or many other things which are not wrong in themselves. But still this world is not our home, it is temporary. We might be living here, yet we are only passing through on our way to God’s country. We have to guard against anything that may turn our focus from Jesus, and not let even the good things that God has created become a distraction.
Our desire is to be with Jesus in our eternal home, where we can truly enjoy all the good things He has created!
