Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. – 1 Corinthians 13:8
What is it that really lasts? Is it what you know or what you have said? God is very clear about what things are most important. Knowledge, language (spiritual or earthly), and even prophesy and explaining God’s word will come to an end. But what will never cease?
Love. In 1 Corinthians 13:13 God says that when all is said and done, only three things remain: faith, hope and love. And the greatest of these is love. Can we really wrap our minds and hearts around this? In the entirety of the vast universe, with it’s countless stars and endless galaxies, the most immeasurable thing to exist is love. In all of earth’s creation, with grand mountains and scenic oceans, the most beautiful thing is love. In all of humanity’s history, with elegant writings and heroic deeds and grand achievements, the only thing that matters is love. This universe, all creation, and every one of mankind’s accomplishments are going away. But love will always remain.
In our own lives, with all of it’s cares or worries, love never fails. In the way we treat others, love never fails. When we face our own weaknesses and even our own death, love never fails. God’s love never fails. It will never cease, never end, never go away. Love never ever, never ever fails!
