Love does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. – 1 Corinthians 13:5
Do you harbor grudges or resentment? — Just stop!
Sometimes we think to ourselves, “wow, it’s really hard to love that person.” Maybe they wronged us or someone we care about, and we keep holding onto that. We expend emotions by harboring bad feelings, and that bitterness gets in the way of following Jesus.
God always loves us, nothing can change that. It is His nature and who He is. Whenever we act without love, and especially when we dwell on someone else’s wrongs or perceived wrongs, we are behaving exactly opposite to the way God desires. It breaks our connection with Him. We can’t say to our Father, “I love you, but I am doing something you really don’t like.”
How do we get past bad feelings for someone?
Make sure you have forgiven them. Let go of whatever it is they have done to you, and cover it with the same kind of forgiveness that God has given you through Jesus. Ask God to show you ways to change your heart from holding a grudge to holding out kindness.
Pray for them! When they come to mind turn that into a prayer. Request blessings for them. Pray for their problems and difficulties. Pray that you can find ways to love them.
Why waste time and emotion on harsh feelings and thoughts, when you can have the joy of love instead!
