Loving God, and loving others. You cannot have one without the other.
God is love. We encounter this saying all the time. It is a sermon title, a tshirt slogan and a catch phrase. We often use it in a trivial way or even as an excuse. But let’s not let our familiarity with it cause us to empty it of meaning.
God is love. He wants for us to share in that aspect of His nature, and created us to love and be loved. But sin has contaminated our ability to love, and the devil is determined to dirty it and sweep it away.
What does it mean to ask God “according to His will”? It is never in God’s will to ask for something we know is not right. We don’t ask God to give us things we know are contrary to His word and teachings. But sometimes these words become an excuse for us to pray with hesitancy. We may feel like we need to determine God’s specific will before we ask anything. Or we lack faith, so we give ourselves an out.
