But You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head. – Psalm 3:3
When you stand in the presence of the Lord, how do you act? Are you afraid? Insignificant? Ashamed? Humbled?
Probably all of these things and maybe a few more. The Lord wants us to seek His presence, because He wants to share His love and compassion with us. If we stand in fear, we have to remember that we have been forgiven. God’s loves calms any fear we may of Him. We also have nothing to fear from anything else, because the Lord is our protector. He is our shield in every situation.
It might be easy to feel insignificant standing in front of the creator of the universe. But God has promised that each of us is so important to Him He even knows how many hairs we have on our head. He values us so much He sent His son Jesus to die for us. His great love gives us great worth and beauty. His glory is our glory.
God’s presence magnifies our own failings. We know we have fallen short of His expectations, and we in no way deserve His love and grace. But He has already taken away our shame through the death and resurrection of Jesus. We can stand as His child, loved and fully forgiven. The Lord lifts our head.
We stand humbled. Not afraid. Not ashamed. Not insignificant. Humbled that God values us as His dear children. Humbled by His constant care and protection. Humbled by His love for us.
